We have decided to adopt another child and this time it will be from S. Korea. We would love to adopt again from Kazakhstan but because of the high costs and the travel involved it isn't an option. Korea is a smooth sailing (hopefully), well oiled machine and with less paperwork, travel of only 3 days, and a cheaper country it seemed to be the right fit for us. In addition, the children reside in foster homes which means they are already well adjusted and loved. The healthcare in Korea is on par with the US as well so they are generally healthy children coming out of Korea. They anticipate the wait being 15-18 months from today. They anticipate it being on the shorter side. We have requested a girl and she should be between 7-12 months old. We wanted another girl so Leah and her would be closer in age and hopefully develop a great bond so since they share being adopted.
Our timeline has started. On our way to Milon's parents house for Christmas dinner, we swung by the post office to officially start the process! We mailed our application to our agency (Barker Adoption Agency) and have contacted the homestudy agency we will have to use for Korea. Korea only requires a homestudy for paperwork so there will be none of the apostilling, etc that we had for Kazakhstan!
